Record Store Day 2022 is approaching, and this year, organizers have decided to return to the traditional single-day holiday model. In this article we will give you all the details along with the most anticipated record store day releases.

What Is Record Store Day

In case you are new to vinyl and unfamiliar with record store day, it is like Christmas for new, old, and future vinyl collectors. This day celebrates the unique culture surrounding over 700 independently owned record stores in the US and thousands of similar stores internationally.

To participate, all you have to do is find your favorite record store either through their website or by looking on Google Maps (record store locator), like one of the participating stores, and mark your calendar for the annual Record Store Day.

When Is Record Store Day 2022

As a result of the epidemic, which led to the spread of Record Store Day over several dates in the past few years, it is moving back to a single day. Record Store Day will be on April 23, 2022.  The 18th of June has also been designated as a fallback date in case of unforeseen circumstances.

What Are Some of the Most Anticipated RSD Releases

There is a ton of great releases to pickup this week, including some new titles from the big publishers and indie developers alike.

This list contains all my personal picks for this years RSD releases. I have tried to include as many different types of genres as possible, so there are a lot of surprises in here!

I’ll be adding more and more content over the next few days, but for now you can check out the list below or visit the official site for the complete list of RSD releases.:

Albums

Blur – Bustin’ + Dronin’

Remix collection Bustin’ + Dronin’ by Blur is set to be released for Record Store Day 2022 in a special, double-heavyweight coloured vinyl edition including remixes of music from their 1997 number one album. Only a few copies of the original 2-CD set, which included a John Peel session, were imported to the UK. Vinyl for Bustin’ + Dronin’ is the first time the nine remixes by William Orbit, Adrian Sherwood, Moby, Thurston Moore, and John McEntire have been made available for the first time. The sleeve comes with an altered version of the original Japanese OBI strip and a replica insert. The two LPs come in transparent blue and transparent green.

CHILDISH GAMBINO Kauai

It’s a paradise found study of nostalgia and the complicated fears of romance, indulgence, and desire in Childish Gambino’s Kauai EP from 2014. From “Sober” through “Late Night in Kauai,” Kauai is an important Childish Gambino album. As part of Record Store Day’s three color vinyl versions, this limited-edition release has been made available for the first time ever on vinyl.

BELL BIV DEVOE Poison

BELL BIV DEVOE - POISON

New Edition was the band in which Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, and Ronnie DeVoe got their start in the music industry. During the late ’80s, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis encouraged the three members of Bell Biv DeVoe to join a new group, so they did. R&B instead of hip-hop was the driving force behind the group’s approach. Bell Biv Devoe’s debut album, Poison, has collaborations from Public Enemy producer Eric Sadler, Hank and Keith Shocklee, and others. As a result of the album’s success, it was certified four times Platinum by the RIAA and reached number one on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart.

BELINDA CARLISLE The Heaven on Earth Tour

To commemorate Belinda Carlisle’s 35 years as a solo artist, a 2LP live set of her greatest songs is being released, including “Heaven Is A Place On Earth,” “Circle In The Sand,” “Runaway Horses,” and “Summer Rain.” On 180 double blue vinyl, this is the first vinyl pressing.

BILL EVANS Morning Glory: The 1973 Concert At The Teatro Gran Rex, Buenos Aires

The first official release of pianist Bill Evans with Eddie Gomez and Marty Morell recorded live at the Teatro Gran Rex in Buenos Aires, Argentina on June 24, 1973, is Morning Glory: The 1973 Concert in Buenos Aires. An extensive booklet, including rare photos from the concert, essays by American author/journalist Marc Myers and Argentina’s Claudio Parisi, author of the book Grandes del jazz internacional en Argentina (1956-1979), and new interviews with Eddie Gomez and pianist Richie Beirach, have been included in this limited edition 2 LP set remastered from the original concert tape reels in collaboration with the Bill Evans estate.

DAVE BRUBECK TRIO Live From Vienna 1967

Live in Vienna with the Dave Brubeck Trio by Dave Brubeck The year is 1967, and Dave and his legendary rhythm unit — Joe Morello on drums and Gene Wright on bass — deliver a scorching performance. Trio leader Paul Desmond missed the flight to Vienna, so they set out on stage with a mission: prove to the audience that the three of them could still deliver a great show even though one member was missing. Each musician in the trio was at the peak of their game and each player was driven to stretch out their solos, which landed them in new creative territory.

Dave and Joe’s ability to communicate musical notions is astounding as they improvise and respond to each other’s new ideas fearlessly. As a tribute to the Quartet’s oldest member, Gene Wright solos more frequently than usual on this CD. In 2020, Gene will be dead by the time he’s 30. When Dave Brubeck plays, he shows off an impressive level of rhythmic nuance in his approach to the piano, which harkens back to his earlier work as a jazz improviser.

DEVO Oh, No! It’s Devo (40th Anniversary Edition)

Devo RSD

For the first time, this two-LP set is wrapped in a gatefold jacket and pressed on 180-gram vinyl.

CHARLES MINGUS The Lost Album From Ronnie Scott’s

Charles McPherson, tenor saxophonist Bobby Jones, trumpeter Jon Faddis, pianist John Foster, and drummer Roy Brooks make up a great band on this recording.

In addition, Brian Priestley, a jazz novelist from the UK, wrote an essay about the band during this tour and interviewed Mingus and McPherson at the time. This edition includes previously unpublished interviews with Charles McPherson, Mingus’ buddy Fran Lebowitz, and bass legends Eddie Gomez and Christian McBride. One of a kind.
