It’s time to get excited about the future and take a look at the most anticipated Alt Rock Albums for 2022. The year 2021 brought us the long-awaited return of live music and a slew of new releases from artists who spent 2020 in the studio.
With the 2021 wrapping up, it’s time to start looking ahead and anticipating what will be new in 2022! Below are 10 of our most anticipated albums that we think you should check out next year. Check them out below!
Avril Lavigne
If the recent release of the single “Bite Me” is any indication of the full album, we expect some great music from Avril Lavigne in 2022. The album is planned to be released on Travis Barker’s DTA Records and we cannot wait. It will also mark the 20th anniversary since our first introduction to her debut studio album Let Go.

Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Red Hot Chili Peppers are a popular American rock band from California. Formed in 1983, the group’s original lineup consisted of singer Anthony Kiedis, bassist Flea, drummer Chad Smith and guitarist Hillel Slovak.
In 1988, the Chili Peppers released their first album which was their self-titled debut album. This album laid the foundation for their signature style: punk/funk fusion and rap rock genres. The band found their breakthrough success with 1989’s Mother’s Milk (#1 on the Billboard 200), Blood Sugar Sex Magik (#1 on the Billboard 200), Californication (#2 on the Billboard 200), and Stadium Arcadium (#1 on the Billboard 200).
The Red Hot Chili Peppers have announced that they will be releasing a new album in 2022. The album is set to feature the return of guitarist John Frusciante, who left the band in 2009. This will be their first album since 2016’s The Getaway. To go along with a massive tour scheduled for 2022 it sounds like the band is on track to release a new album in 2022.
The album is still in the early stages of production and no release date has been announced yet, but we’re excited to see what the guys have in store for us. Stay tuned!
Foo Fighters
After taking a break from the studio and touring in 2020, it sounds like Foo Fighters are gearing up to release a new album in 2022. The band has been pretty tight lipped about what they’ve been up to, but frontman Dave Grohl did mention in a recent interview that the album is “pretty fucking heavy.”
We’re excited to see what the album will sound like and can’t wait for it to be released. In the meantime, we’ll just have to keep jamming to their classics like “Everlong” and “Best of You.” and enjoying the 2021 album Medicine at Midnight.
The band is scheduling a huge NA tour for 2022. You can see all dates here.

Portugal. The Man
Been a bit of time since we last heard from Portugal the Man after they took over the radio waves with their mainstream “Feel It Still” from their 2017 Woodstock album. They already have some tour dates set starting in early 2022 and we are expecting some great new music from them.
If you have not had a chance to hear Portugal the Man cover Len’s “Steal My Sunshine” released back in September, make sure to check it out. One of our favorite cover songs of 2021.

In addition, alt-j will be touring with Portugal the Man, make sure to get tickets early as this is going to be a great show!

The band has noted that they will release their eighth album sometime in 2022. This is good news for fans of Cage the Elephant waiting to see what the new album will be like. Does not seem like it but it has been 3 years since the release of Social Cues (2019 release). No title or release date has been announced as of now, but we’re sure that it’ll be great based on their past work. Could not be more excited to see what the guys from Kentucky produce for us.
Weezer
Weezer was on a roll in 2021 by offering us not one but two albums in the first half of 2021. From rumors we have seen, it sounds like Weezer will be offering even more in 2022 with 4 albums expected in 2022, one released in each season.
Arctic Monkeys
The band Artic Monkeys is a British rock band that formed in 2002. They are best known for their singles “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High” and “Do I Wanna Know?” from their 2013 album AM. Recently they released Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino which was highly acclaimed by critics and fans alike. We can only hope that Artic Monkeys planned 2022 album matches the quality of their last studio album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino released four years ago.
Bastille
On the docket for 2022 is a follow-up to the 2019 Doom Days album by Bastille. Expected out in February, the full length follow-up album is titled Give Me The Future. Should start the year off with a boom.
